International Scholarship & Tuition Services Partners With NHPO

International Scholarship & Tuition Services, Inc. will administer new scholarship providing educational opportunities for Memphis Latino youth.

May 04, 2011 – International Scholarship and Tuition Services, Inc. (ISTS) recently signed an agreement with the Memphis, Tennessee chapter of the National Hispanic Professional Organization (NHPO) to develop an online application portal and manage application processing, winner selection and funds disbursement for their new Future Latino Leaders Scholarship Program.

Recognizing a combination of factors impacting the local Latino community - including high school dropout rates and the demand for Spanish-speaking professionals - representatives from Memphis-area businesses, public agencies and non-profit organizations have joined forces to develop a scholarship program aimed at cultivating a better educated local workforce.

“If knowledge is power, then the NHPO Memphis Latino Leaders Scholarship will be a catalyst for our youth to secure a better future, make a difference in our community and impact future generations,” said Lisa Maples, Executive Chair for NHPO Memphis. “Supporting this program is one way that we can give back to honor those who have mentored us in our careers or guided us in our personal lives.”

Launching May 12, 2011, the new annual program will award scholarships of up to $2,500 to high school seniors, as well as college freshmen, sophomores and juniors of Latino descent from the Greater Memphis area.

Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, complete six hours of community service through the mentoring committee of NHPO Memphis and demonstrate both financial need and leadership skills. In addition, recipients must enroll as a full-time student at a state-accredited two or four year college or university.

Maples noted that NHPO Memphis selected ISTS to administer the scholarship program based on the company’s ties to Tennessee, high levels of community involvement and more than 25 years of experience managing scholarship programs.

“We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship [with ISTS],” Maples said.
