NHPO Establishes Chapter in Nation's Capitol

The National Hispanic Professional Organization (NHPO) has launched its first out of state chapter in Washington, DC. Houston, Texas is the birth of NHPO but the vision of Ben Mendez, the organization's founder, has always been to establish a national presence.

The Washington, DC chapter of NHPO had their first mixer on November 16, 2007. The mixer was held at a popular nightspot in the heart of the district.

The NHPO Washington, DC chapter is off to a good start with office space and an address at 17171 K Street, NW. The office is located only a few blocks from the White House and has a prestigious K street address.

Washington, DC has a strong a diverse Latino community. You have people from every Spanish speaking country in the world represented in Washington, DC. During the first NHPO mixer, there were people from 14 different countries of origin. This kind of diversity should prove very positive and help strengthen the DC chapter.

Present at the opening mixer was a delegation from other NHPO chapters. Houston was present with 12 chapter members. Visiting NHPO members was given a VIP tour of Washington, DC and introduced to some of the out of the way eateries that only locals know about.

The NHPO chapter in DC is led by J.R. Gonzales and is in the process of electing their Board of Directors. One of the chapter's objectives is to be a resource to other chapters. "As an organization we are fortunate to have a chapter in our nation's capitol. We look forward to working with other NHPO chapters and to extend the invitation to call on us if we can ever be of assistance," said Gonzales.
